Free Evangelical brethren Church in Prague 6 Dejvice

A new home for future generations

Thirty years on, with God's help we are fulfilling our founders' vision: a place of worship of our own in Prague 6. One roof, open to all, so that our neighbours in Dejvice may hear the Gospel, today and for generations to come.

„God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."

Psalm 46:1

About the project

Under one roof

We are the Free Evangelical brethren Church congregation in Prague 6 – Dejvice. For over 30 years we have met for Sunday services in rented spaces, which comes with a great many disadvantages. 25 years ago we bought a building that we fill with activities (small groups, clubs, gatherings, courses), but it isn’t big enough for larger events. That is why we want to extend the building with a multipurpose hall and worship space. Through high-quality architecture we also want to show that there is a modern church here. And on top of that, everything will be "under one roof". We believe this can spark further growth for our congregation, and that for many reasons, now is the right time.

Our journey

How we got here

1995

Church founded

The Free Evangelical brethren congregation in Prague 6 was founded by a group of people who wanted to bring the gospel to a part of Prague that had no church and is home to many universities. The congregation began meeting in various rented spaces, while weekday activities took place in people’s homes.

2001

Own building

The longing for a place of our own culminated in the purchase of an older building in the heart of Prague 6. The building needed a complete renovation, which the members began carrying out themselves. Even then, there was a vision of building a worship hall on the site. In the end, however, this didn’t happen, and over the many years that followed, the belief took hold that it simply wasn’t possible.

2022

Need for new place

As the congregation grew and our spaces became ever busier, we began to consider how we could serve more effectively and, if possible, bring all our activities under one roof. Attempts to find space in Prague 6 ran up against the high cost of rent and limited capacity.

2023

Vision for extension

Despite the long-held belief that nothing could be built on the site of our church building for legal and spatial reasons, we decided that after all those years we would make one last attempt.

2024

Architectural study

An architectural study was produced. It was designed so that the modern extension connects naturally to the historic house, signals to passers-by that something unusual and interesting is here, and meets all of our congregation’s needs well into the future.

2025

Zoning approval

After more than a year of negotiations with the authorities, we received a zoning decision confirming that the worship hall can be built on the site as designed in the study.

2026

Building permit

We are completing the project documentation and applying for a building permit. We are starting to look for funding for the construction.

Vision

What the new building will look like

The new extension preserves the character of the historic house and adds a modern hall for 200 people, a bright foyer with, a café, and full facilities — all connected under one roof.

Support the project

A project of this size is a huge challenge for a congregation of 150 members. Still, we believe we should cover as much of the target amount as possible through our own sacrificial giving. Our goal is to raise half of the total from our own contributions. For the other half, we would like to ask for your help, if this project and vision matter to you.
